MR-SAM (Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile) is an Indian-Israeli jointly developed surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, designed to defend against any type of airborne threat including aircraft, helicopters, anti-ship missiles, UAVs, ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and combat jets. Both maritime and land-based variants exist.

Also known as Barak 8, it was jointly developed by India's Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI). It is produced by Israel's Directorate of Research and Development (DDR&D), Elta Systems, Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and India's Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems (KRAS), and Tata Advanced Systems (TASL).

Capabilities

The system uses a dual-pulse solid-fuel rocket motor and employs active radar homing in the terminal phase. It is capable of engaging multiple threats simultaneously and provides area defense for a fleet. The naval version (LRSAM) is integrated with modern warships using a Vertical Launch System (VLS).
