INS Trishul (F43), meaning 'Trident', is the second frigate of the Talwar class of the Indian Navy. The Talwar-class frigates are based on the Russian Krivak III-class frigates and were built at the Baltiysky Zavod shipyard in St. Petersburg, Russia.
Construction & Commissioning
INS Trishul was laid down in 1999, launched on 24 May 2001, and commissioned into the Indian Navy on 25 June 2003. She was the second of the original three Talwar-class frigates ordered from Russia.
Capabilities
The Talwar-class frigates are designed for multi-role operations including anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, and anti-aircraft warfare. They are equipped with BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles, surface-to-air missiles, a 100mm gun, and advanced sonar systems.
