INS Khanderi (S22) is the second of the Indian Navy's six Kalvari-class submarines being built in India. It is a Scorpène-class submarine built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), Mumbai.
The submarine is named after a fortified island near Mumbai that holds historical significance — Khanderi Fort was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the 17th century to control sea routes.
Construction & Commissioning
INS Khanderi was launched on 12 January 2017 and commissioned into service on 28 September 2019. She is also the second Indian Navy submarine to bear this name, the first having been decommissioned in 1989.
